Tryout criteria
The coaching staff will be looking for coachable athletes who have a great work ethic and want to learn to be better players and teammates. Athletes will be evaluated for their overall athletic ability and level of volleyball skills as follows:
Attitude/Work Ethic: Players who are positive and eager to learn. Your learning curve is very important to us!
Athletic Ability: Players with the ability to learn and perform skills.
Position: In the 15U-18U age groups, players will be evaluated for their ability and potential to fill specific positional needs (setter, outside hitter, middle blocker, opposite hitter, libero).

How to Impress the Coaches
* Be among the first to arrive in the gym and to help set up nets and equipment.
* Be among the first to line up for drills.
* Look the coach in the eye when he/she speaks to you or to your group.
* Strive to take instructions and execute the skill as asked. Success is not just measured by your ability to hit or serve over the net. More importantly, do you try to execute the skill properly - this means you are coachable.
* Be among the first to help take down the nets and put away equipment.

How are teams selected?
Tryouts are divided into separate age categories, simply to keep the numbers more manageable during both Sunday tryout dates. For example, the 13U tryout is held separately from 14U tryout, but the 14U teams may be selected from BOTH of these tryout camps. The same applies to the 15U and 16U age groups.

We will have at least one 13U team, this age group will be playing triple ball and will focus on learning overall sports skills and to introduce and begin to develop basic volleyball skills.

Our 13U & 14U teams will focus on learning to play the game with an emphasis on skill building and learning to play team volleyball. We make every effort to ensure every girl makes a team, however we also rely on volunteers to coach and if we don't have enough coaches, we may not be able to place each player on a team.

The 13U-14U age groups have a "fair play" rule, which means all twelve players on the roster will start either the first set or second set of a match. There are no substitutions allowed so this will guarantee that all athletes will play.

Our 15U/16U/17U/18U teams will be be focused more towards tactics and overall performance of the game.

All teams will be selected as follows:

En Fuego will consist of the top twelve high performing athletes who will practice 2-3 times per week, which includes strength and conditioning training as determined by their coach. Teams will practice from January to April/May and will attend a number of out of town tournaments, Provincials and possibly Nationals (depending on location).

Esprit will consist of the next twelve high performing athletes who will practice 2-3 times per week, including strength and conditioning training as determined by their coach. Teams will practice from January to April and will attend a number of out of town tournaments as well as Provincials.

Cascata, Fuerza and Peligro teams will be chosen from the remaining athletes to create a balance of developmental teams. These teams will practice 1-2 times per week from January to April and will attend at least three tournaments during the club season.

Our coaches work very hard to ensure all athletes on their teams receive equal court time, however, equal playing time on an En Fuego or Esprit team is not guaranteed. Every athlete is given the same opportunity to train and develop as a player.

Team Practice Information
Practice days and times will be determined AFTER the teams have been selected as determined by their coach. If you have other activities that your daughter is involved in, please indicate those activities, along with the days of the week and time of these activities on the Toppers registration form when you register your daughter at tryouts.
